I have installed Bookworm on my machine but the installation is flawed. Here is the output when I try to install some new packages. I'm kind of a newbi with this so any help or suggestions will be appreciated.:

What is the package that you installed ?

From where did you download it ?

Gulp! I installed it a while ago, and I'm not sure of the source? Sorry. Thanks for reply.

As Aki asked, what packages are you trying to install? From where? Give us what you have done to get this error rather than only posting the error.

I guess you have a third party driver installed which is not compatible with the new kernel.

Code: Select all

Consult /var/lib/dkms/rtl8821ce/v5.5.2_34066.20200325/build/make.log for more information.
Error! One or more modules failed to install during autoinstall.
What did that make.log show?

There's a long output, here's the end of the file:

Code: Select all

 make[2]: *** [/usr/src/linux-headers-6.1.0-13-common/scripts/Makefile.build:255: /var/lib/dkms/rtl8821ce/v5.5.2_34066.20200325/build/os_dep/linux/os_intfs.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [/usr/src/linux-headers-6.1.0-13-common/Makefile:2039: /var/lib/dkms/rtl8821ce/v5.5.2_34066.20200325/build] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-6.1.0-13-amd64'

You should report the complete make.log in one the following ways:
  • attaching the logs to a follow-up forum message as a compressed zip or gz file
  • paste logs into the body of a follow-up message between code tags (if they fit the size of a forum message)
Furthermore, it would be useful to check for foreign packages; you can use the following command:

Code: Select all

apt list '?narrow(?installed, ?not(?origin(Debian)))'

Apparently that WiFi device is supported in the kernel since 5.9 by the rtw88 driver so you should remove the incompatible rtl8821ce module.

Thanks for updating the discussion.

The issue was probably caused by the installation of a "foreign package" (not from Debian repository) that was incompatible with the linux kernel version released with Debian Stable.

The fresh install erased the installation of that "foreign package".

I'm glad you sorted it out. :)
