debian 12 & ssd ware?

#1 Post by 010101 »

Until I get the money to custom build my computer with a proper hard-drive (one that has a disk and spins [hdd]) im stuck with ssd.

Has debian 12 done anything to help us out in that regards?
Is there packages one could recommend to help ease ware and tear on my ssd?

I'll turn some logging off.
I will turn off swap. That should help.
I've been self-conscious about sending data into the free space (deleting) putting it in my trash bin instead, filling the drive about 75% before deleting. That should help.
I've been self-conscious about downloading and installing.

These are courses of action I took to increase the life of my ssd.

Any other ideas?
Any debian 12 settings that will help?
Any deb packages to help?

P.S. This thread IS NOT about defending ssd, or comparing the two, or the advantage and disadvantages of either over the other. Please don't....stay on topic please.

Your perception of ssd lifespans is outdated. It is perfectly acceptable to use an ssd instead of a hard drive, below is a recent discussion about it:

I think that my questions (by now) would've been addressed in this post. So I don't expected some of my questions in this post to be answered.

I did find out that there's a program that came with the debian 12 distro that auto runs to help protect my drive.
