expecting zen kernel which is optimised for ryzen CPU and APUs from Debian.

#1 Post by rupeshforu3 »

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I have brought a new system with AMD Ryzen zen3 5500GT APU and Asus prime b450 motherboard. I have installed Debian Linux and it is working fine but I want zen kernel which is optimised for my APU.

Actually there are two or more linux kernels available at any time they are for example kernel 6.12.1, zen kernel 6.12.1, kernel liquirorix etc.,.

At present I am using ryzen APU and I want zen kernel which is optimised for my hardware.

Regularly mainline kernels are released but as I want no zen kernel is released to public.

Kindly try to release the zen kernel so that I can install it and run.

Regards,
Rupesh.

This is a user forum. You can try filing a wishlist bug but you probably should have some evidence that it actually would improve performance and how much it does that. If I understood it correctly the maintainers are trying to keep the number of kernel packages reasonably small to reduce build times and disk usage on mirrors.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Even other people suggested that there's no performance gain in using zen kernel compared to generic kernel.

Yes I have posted the same thread in two forums because I am using both of them daily one after other.

I love Linux and Unix Operating Systems, X Windows System and its components.

I have lot of disk space and so I have installed various Linux Operating Systems and exploring them.

Many people don't like installing various operating systems and so I have not mentioned at the beginning.

Btw, it is "X Window System", not "X Windows".

Liquorix does maintain a Debian apt repository you can add, see liquorix.net. Note that if you use out of tree drivers such as Nvidia proprietary you can get build failures unless you know what you're doing--same as any new kernel release--you have been warned.

Liquorix kernels incorporate the Zen patches.

Code: Select all

$ inxi

CPU: 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics (-MT MCP-)
speed/min/max: 3493/400/4463 MHz Kernel: 6.11.10-1-liquorix-amd64 x86_64
Up: 20h 53m Mem: 7959.7/31445.3 MiB (25.3%) Storage: 953.87 GiB (59.1% used)
Procs: 400 Shell: Bash inxi: 3.3.26
The Zen patches predated the Ryzen CPUs.
Can you give me any references that state they are optimized for that series of AMD CPUs?
