Headset microphone is not working (Raptor Lake P/U/H cAVS).

#1 Post by joeugenio »

Hello,

I am experiencing some audio input issues on Debian Trixie (kernel 6.11.7-1 amd64) with the MATE Desktop on an Acer Nitro ANV15-5 laptop (Intel i5 13420H). The microphones of both the wired headset and the Bluetooth headset are not working. In the sound preferences app, the headphone input device is always displayed, even when the headset is not connected.

The sound output test button in the MATE sound preferences app also does not work. But the sound outputs and the internal digital microphone are functioning normally. I can't figure out whether the problem is with ALSA, PulseAudio, or something else. I tested Pipewire, but the problem persists. This issue also occurred while using Ubuntu (kernel 6.8.0-41) from a live USB. However, with Ubuntu, the Bluetooth microphone works; only the headset microphone did not function.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Here are some details:

Welcome to the forum!

Well, the driver can handle a digital microphone input, that's cool!

If you are lucky, it could just be a bug in switching. Try alsamixer and look for toggle/mute settings for available microphones, and/or pavucontrol for profile/input options.

The Bluetooth mic would probably need some specific diagnostic information for Bluetooth from lspci, journalctl or dmesg.

Hi, @FreewheelinFrank,

Thank you for your help. I’ve just run an apt upgrade, and the kernel version is now 6.11.9, but the problem persists. I checked for any bugs using alsomixer and pavucontrol, as you suggested, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem.

There is only one card profile available: “Play HiFi quality Music”. Also, there are two input sources listed: “Headphones Stereo Microphone” and “Digital Microphone”. However, only the last one works.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can debug this issue?

Thanks a lot.

What exactly is the make and model of the headphone? Digital (noise cancelling) or analogue?

Do you have an alternative headset with mic to test, from a phone perhaps?

When you plug it in and remove it, does anything change in alsamixer?

Is this a combined jack?

What type of plug is it and what type of socket? Is there a mismatch?
