Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
I preordered a Framework 16 which should be arriving some time soon, and I'm going to run Debian + KDE on it. Framework have official Linux support and worked with AMD to fix several bugs. Framework's official Linux support is only Fedora and Ubuntu, but most of the fixes are kernel fixes that help all Linux distros run better on their laptops. A lot of the fixes are only in kernel 6.6, so I'll have to either run stable + backports kernel, or testing.

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
I have a mid-tier Chromebook from 2020/2021 that I installed Debian on through the chrultrabook docs. What I like the most about it is that it feels more sleek/modern than a lot of Windows PC's out there and costs a fraction of the price. I've been using Chromebooks as an inexpensive alternative for about a decade, so their keyboards feel natural to me, but if you're coming from Windows, I'd imagine it would be an adjustment in some areas. It was working perfectly up until recently when I did some hardening recommendations from lynis and it has been freezing more often lately. Overall I'd recommend it if you're a tinkerer, a current Chromebook user, or aesthetics & price are both mutually important

I have a 2015 Acer E5-574T with Debian 12. It didn't install with UEFI and I couldn't fix it. The touchpad and sound broke, but reinstalling Debian fixed them.

Ciao, running Debian 12, 6.1.0.22, on a Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 1, 12th Gen Intel i7-1260P (16) @ 4.700GHz and everything work fine
Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
I am using a Macbook Pro mid 2012, 500 GB SSD with 16 GB RAM. Bought on eBay for less than 100 dollars. Pretty nice, except the fan setup is murder! Otherwise, pretty nice unit. Can plug into external monitor with a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable. Pretty sweet.

MSI Ge70. The only problem is that NVIDIA drivers are too old to play WarThunder on.
Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
I have Thinkpad T480, I dont know what throttling issue is but i have installed debian with system utilities and with a window manager. Overall it works fine without any errors.
Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
I run Debian "Buster" (I believe that's that last 32-bit release of Debian) on an Acer Aspire 9410Z, an old laptop that I love (great big keyboard). It's a dual-core Pentium (686) processor.

Current Debian bookworm is available for 32-bit computers - https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/12.6.0/i386/
It will be supported for 686 processors in Debian 13 Trixie as well - https://www.debian.org/releases/trixie/ ... ew.en.html

Lenovo T480S, Bookworm.
This model is limited to 16GB of memory, I got it after my prior T480 proper died and transported 16GB of the 32 I had prior and swapped the 256GB HD for my 512GB SSD.
I plan on getting another T480 and putting in 64GB of memory and a 1TB SSD drive that I have sitting around, I am patiently waiting for a good deal on eBay.
I still have a lot of those stickers, if you want one and the shipping isn't crazy I can send them out.

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
A T480 with 64 GB RAM sounds like a winner. My T440S with touchscreen has not been a good experience with Debian.

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
It should boot up and increase my level of radiation in under 4 seconds.
I like the idea of the touch screens, but I have found in my experience, that if the controller isn't native its not worth it.

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
The touchscreen was fine in itself. The problem was that the touchpad would sometimes quit working after suspend from ram. I tested the computer with Manjaro, and they both worked as expected.
I'll probably sell the computer and get myself a T480 and max out the RAM. I already have an X270 for portability, upgraded to 32GB RAM, and it is awesome.

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?
Added another one. Lenovo Carbon X1, 4th Generation. CPU i5 6300U, 8GB RAM and 240GB M2 SSD. Added a 512GB SD card for extra storage. Is that a good idea? Maybe not, but it syncs to my server whenever I'm at home so unlikely to lose anything. The M2 SSD isn't quite standard, so replacement may be a bit expensive. Consider that later. This is one terrific little machine. Way outperforms the other two and the battery lasts me 2 days. Sound is quite good and the 12" 1920x1080 screen is lovely. These things are worth around $400 for average used condition - I picked this one up on an Ebay auction for the reserve price of $117 in virtually "as new" condition, which I'm fairly happy with given they're like $2.5K new. SIM card slot means I don't even have to tether to the phone, so very convenient.NFT5 wrote: ↑2024-04-13 13:09 Two, at the moment.
HP15-g216au
This model was available ex factory with Win8, Ubuntu or SUSE, so Linux compatible out of the box. I bought it new and it had Win8 pre-installed which I wiped and it's run Debian 9, 10, 11. MATE desktop.
Processor is AMD A6-5200 which I'd call the minimum standard, but in saying that it runs well, albeit a little slower than I'd like. RAM upgraded to 8GB and now has an SSD in place of the original HDD.
AMD GPU runs a 4K TV faultlessly and that's its current use. Wi-Fi is strong, if a touch slow while network is 10/100 only, but that's good enough. Sound is surprisingly good.
These notebooks have a known problem with keyboards. Replaced once and looks like may need again. Bit disappointing in a package that is otherwise pretty solid.
Lenovo Ideapad 110-15AST
AMD A9 (7th Gen) processor is noticeably faster than the HP and I've upgraded RAM to 8GB and HDD to an SSD. More than capable of handling just about anything I'm likely to do while on the road.
Only shortfall with this notebook is the sound, which is pretty awful.
Running Debian 12 now, previously Debian 10 and 11 with KDE. Absolutely no problems with the operating system, peripheral drivers or any of the hardware or software.
Used for business primarily. Various applications including Win7 in Virtualbox which runs faultlessly.
Running Debian 12 with KDE Plasma and it's absolutely faultless, even when running Win7 in Virtualbox. Installation is a bit vanilla, but went faultlessly and has been ultra reliable. Only downside is that the keyboard doesn't have a number pad, but I can live with that.
