SOLVED: replacing windows with debian 12: bios issue

I currently have windows 10 installed. I wish to replace it with debian bookworm.
The following describes my current windows system:
System Manufacturer HP
System Model HP ProDesk 600 G3 SFF
System Type x64-based PC

BIOS Version/Date HP P07 Ver. 02.47, 6/15/2023
BIOS Mode UEFI

I tried unsuccessfully (review of bios options/internet search) to program
the bios to do a legacy boot - computer continues to start up windows.
What's the solution?

In Windows settings disable "Fast Boot". It also may be called "Fast startup" in Windows 10.

Debian is perfectly capable of booting on EFI environments. Changing to BIOS (legacy) mode shouldn't be necessary.

Are you selecting the boot device at startup? Otherwise you have changed the drive boot order so that your Debian media boots before the Windows drive does?

As uptorn wrote, this is not required to boot latest Debian installation media.

What is your Debian booting media ? Are you using a USB media ? If yes, is the bios configured to allow usb boot ?

Subsequently ,I was able to locate and enable the Legacy mode.
Debian 12.7. is now working.

This computer had a bios set up different from what I was used to-
so it took some time to navigate the changes.

For what its worth- the following are the steps I used.
In the boot configuration section - enabled legacy mode and save.
This then highlights the legacy mode options -usb etc . USB mode
was selected.
proceed to save and exit.

Restart computer, press esc- which brings up a boot menu.
The menu will then show a legacy boot option.
Switch from current UEFI mode to legacy mode and proceed .
