[Solved] System not updated to 12.7

I have problems installing some new packages. When comparing this system to a fully working system I discovered that my system does not appear to have updated to Bookworm 12.7. Here is debian_version

I have compared this system with another system that is quite happily running 12.7 and cannot see any differences. I've done an apt clean and an apt autoclean, but I'm still in this situation.

I have no idea how this could possibly have happened and need help!

There was another topic recently with similar issue which IIRC was solved by deleting the apt package list files and then update/upgrade. Sorry don't have time to search for it now.

It had to be something to do with what was kept in the cache, so deleting /var/lib/apt/lists did the job for me.

I've been using Debian for many years now. I've always been impressed by how solid apt and dpkg is. The last post I had to do in this forum was about updating from Lenny to Squeeze. That same machine is now running Bookworm having been upgraded over the years.

This is the first time I've had a problem I couldn't sort out myself, but coming here got it sorted straight away.

Great you got it sorted! It's strange as there have only been a couple of reports of this issue, and the vast majority had smooth upgrades including myself. Difficult to track down the cause with such a small sample size.

Just CLI apt. I did mess with aptitude for a while, but have stuck with apt for years now.

Same behavior as noticed by Biomorph.
Removing /var/lib/apt/lists followed by an apt update && apt upgrade resolved this issue.

Nothing special in /etc/apt/ folder

My system was upgraded from bullseye some time ago,
but I'm nearly sure that output of cat /etc/debian_version
was 12.7 some weeks ago.
