[Testing - Trixie] Where is the broadcom-sta-dkms driver package?

#1 Post by jfabernathy »

I'm experimenting with Trixie on a Macbook Pro that used broadcom-sta-dkms to make the WiFi work on Bookworm stable. I wanted to experiment with Hyprland and needed Trixie. I did not install broadcom-sta-dkms before I changed all the repo names from bookworm to trixie.

Is that what's needed? I can't find any broadcom packages for Trixie.

Hello,

The package is not already migrated from Debian Unstable (Sid) to Debian Testing (Trixie):

Thanks for the explanation. I've only used Stable up to this point and not really familiar as to how things work beyond stable.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but I'm also running testing, and I was able to install broadcom-sta-dkms.

I had to enable 'nonfree' and 'non-free-firmware' in /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free-firmware contrib non-free

I suspect your installation is not a current Debian Testing.

This is the log from my Debian Testing (Trixie); note: I obscured the repository address and port:

One can always search the Debian Packages website to see where it is:
https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... m-sta-dkms
Yep, not currently in Testing.

Looks like it should migrate in a couple of days.
Issues preventing migration:
∙ ∙ Too young, only 9 of 10 days old
Or you could just download the package now
https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/bro ... s/download

and install with gdebi-gtk

(gdebi is quite safe. It won't install anything if dependencies are not satisfied)

Actually, I didn't read the package log well enough - I still had the -23 version from before it was removed.

On a tangent, I've been running testing on this macbook for 2-3 years now, and I've had more upgrade issues in the last 3 weeks than in the previous 2 years combined. Part of that's Nvidia's fault for dropping support for the GPU, though.
