[SID - Unstable] Broken packages

#1 Post by innerdemon »

Hello, i am currently still facing this issue also.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
Hit:1 http://mirror.aktkn.sg/kali kali-rolling InRelease
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
25 packages can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see them.
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnustep-base-runtime : Depends: gnustep-base-common (= 1.29.0-4) but 1.28.1+really1.28.0-5 is to be installed
libgnustep-base1.29 : Depends: gnustep-base-common (= 1.29.0-4) but 1.28.1+really1.28.0-5 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

How many more days should i wait ?

WFIW on this old thread, I ran into this too and had IPv6 turned off. I had seen it was looking to an IPv6 address for the manual install gnustep so I turned it back on. It worked, this was after much frustration.

None.

I had never heard of an "impossible situation" till about a year or two ago using Kali. That's because they don't exist.

You have to take the advise about missing dependencies it gives you and work your way back through what got you to this point till you can see the source of the problem.

Allow me to demonstrate'

Code: Select all

Have you tried running the command bellow encapsulated in the code tags?

Code: Select all

sudo apt --fix-broken install
You should run the above command without a package tacked onto the end of it. It wil,l then go through the packages that are installed on your system and check for broken packages. After it's done so if its found any broken or partially installed packages it'll list them and ask you if you want to remove the packages.
