Blank screen after installing Debian 11.4 on i3 10th gen PC

#1 Post by rupeshforu3 »

Hi I am Rupesh and I have a pc with Intel i3 10th gen processor 10100 and asus prime h 510 me motherboard. I have tried to install Debian Linux 11.4 bullseye and succeeded but can't boot after selecting kernel 5.10 from grub.

First I have downloaded Debian iso live kde live non free and after that I have made a usb installation media.

After booting live media I have selected live option but as soon as I have selected live mode monitor turned off and my cpu has not stopped ie., it is running.

After that I have rebooted and selected install Debian Linux option and this time total os including grub has been installed but after restarting the same happened ie., monitor is off and my cpu is still running.

In graphics card section of debian wiki page I found instruction to uninstall xserver xorg video intel and I have done so and after that I have rebooted and still the problem is not solved ie., monitor is off and my cpu is still running.

Actually my system has latest i3 10th gen processor and asus prime h 510 motherboard and I have enabled secure boot.

Previously on the same system I have installed Fedora 36 37 and open suse tumbleweed etc., and I have not found any problem but I have tried to run Debian bullysye and failed.

Also my another requirement is in Fedora 37 yesterday I found latest kernel 5.17.14 and gcc 12 but I think that they are not available in Debian bullysye. Is it true.

Kindly try to suggest how to run Debian bullysye successfully without any errors.

Regards,
Rupesh.

Also RTL 8188 wifi adapter which is attached to usb 3.0 port is not detected.

Kindle try to suggest how both of these issues can be resolved.

Please note that to modify any settings or make changes I have to add nomodeset in the kernel entry of grub2.

No. Don't be silly.

For your black screen problem install the firmware-misc-nonfree package.

I have issued the following command

apt cache search firmware

I found that firmware-misc-nonfree is already installed.

Have you tried to disable secure boot?

No I have not tried.

Here the problem is not with secure boot but it's with Intel uhd graphics 630 as its not configured properly.

In other distros like Fedora and open suse tumbleweed we can get daily updates.

Is it possible to get latest updates in Debian for example I want latest kernel and latest gcc and latest drivers etc.,

Yes, if you switch from stabile to testing "bookworm".

I thought 10th generation Intel was supported by kernel 5.10 but perhaps not. Try the linux-image-amd64 package from bullseye-backports. That's a better option than testing for a n00b.

EDIT: if it still doesn't work share the journal or dmesg contents.
