Re: Issue installing Firefox from Mozilla repo

Thank you guys, removing the "diverging" I was able to install Firefox although Bookworm decided to set Vivaldi as main x-www-browser and thus I had to reassign manually Firefox as default system browser... :?

Re: Issue installing Firefox from Mozilla repo

I use LibreWolf daily on a SBC with Devuan instead of Debian and I can tell you that is leaner than Firefox-esr, besides this is still Firefox.

Re: Issue installing Firefox from Mozilla repo

[...]So removing the diversion with "dpkg-divert --remove" should be the easiest solution. I just installed firefox-esr from Debian repo and removed it again to solve this. I am not really understood what you wrote, anyway why on another installation (always Bookworm) did it work out and ...

sunrat wrote: 2024-09-10 14:58 are you using Bookworm?
It is a fresh install just made on Sunday. I did not have this issue on the other laptop with Debian bookworm through dist-upgrade.
Maybe it belongs to "pure" Bookworm install.

[XFCE] Desktop Blinking

Today without any reason my daughter's laptop desktop was blinking, exactly the day she had an important test. I mitigated the issue removing the desktop but it was blinking the same, when I touched the panel or the menu it stopped to blink. What could be possible happened to the desktop? The Debian...

Never mind, I finally understood why Libre Computer provides an image based on MBR rather than GPT, it is perhaps to avoid this very same chicken-in-the-egg problem... 🤔

Hep with debootstrap and /sys directory

Hi folks, I have a pebcak trying to bootstrap Debian on a SBC ARM64 , when it is time to install GRUB into a CHROOT environment: if I previously mounted /sys (and /sys/firmware/efi/efivars ) the process fails cause /sys/* is (correctly) mounted read-only; while if I do not mount /sys , it doesn't no...

Re: [BOOKWORM] How to completely disable IPv6?

You can also place record net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6=1 in /etc/sysctl.confand enter command as root sysctl -p See /proc/sys/net. This method did not work. So what do you want to achieve that disabling IPv6 from grub will not allow ? The ipv6 kernel module is compiled as a built-in part of t...

[Solved] [BOOKWORM] How to completely disable IPv6?

Hello there, is there a way to completely disable IPv6? So far the only working method I found is adding ipv6.disable=1 to GRUB ; however this workaround doesn't block it completely, it only prevents to be used. The point is I don't run an ISP, I don't need IPv6, I don't want to see IPv6 utterly com...

Re: How to Cut Down the Power to the Laptop Webcam?

(..) it has already melted the plastic that covers it. This means that the IR camera has an internal shortcut in its power section - this cannot be solved by any software tricks - if You want to keep this laptop alive, I would suggest to cut the power physically (disconnecting/cutting the cables) O...

Re: How to Cut Down the Power to the Laptop Webcam?

This laptop has this infrared camera that makes the lid boiling, it has already melted the plastic that covers it. The big issues is the battery life that is drop down around 30%. I had to requested to the school a laptop since "mine" got broken because another student.

Re: How to Cut Down the Power to the Laptop Webcam?

TLP disables the webcam but doesn't cut the energy. Unfortunately there isn't any bios setup for this, so I tried to unplug the camera but the cable is bonded with cable of the screen; this means that my only option is to cut the cable but without schematics is a risk because I may cut the wrong one...

Thanks! This is worth to try!

Actually TLP is already installed, maybe it has enough granular control to disable the webcam, I'll definitely look into it!

Overriding a systemd unit to fix an issue with tethering

Hi guys, the kind systemd is trying to mount a webdav resource but since is dumb it doesn't realize it needs to wait for tethering to be active before trying to reach the remote resource. By the other hands I am dumb too because I don't know how to tell it to wait for the network to raise up the usb...

Re: Debian 11: random reboots, no clue!

We removed almost all the USB extra devices however it looks like the situation is getting worst. I have started thinking it may be an issue with the power unit and I asked him to use a Debian Live and check if the issue happens the same.
