Who, me? I'm not a Debian maintainer. Here's a good starting point if you want to help out: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/nvidia-graphics-drivers

Haha, hey - if you like living life on the edge or never make mistakes then more power to you. At the very least maybe use timeshift.eamanu wrote: 2025-01-02 10:59 I've been a Linux user for around 10 years, and I usually don’t make backups. Perhaps now is the time to start?

Technically, the latest Linux production branch (released by Nvidia) is 550: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/unix
I imagine 550 will be available in Trixie but I don't see it packaged yet.

Re: [Software] Firefox 133 instal!ation from .deb file.
It sounds like what you might want is to show the title bar in Firefox. You can do this by clicking on the menu icon and clicking on More tools > Customize toolbar. Then in the bottom left of the window, ensure the the Title Bar check box is checked.

They're a newcomer to Linux and likely don't have a backup.

If you followed the instructions on the wiki it shouldn't have touched the display manager. Do you recall which part of the wiki page you followed?

Did you use the deb file from the Debian package repo (https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/firefox/download)?

Re: [Discussion] do you cover your webcam when not in use?
I have a webcam for work that's mounted on the same screen I use for personal and work computing (I switch machines via KVM switch). It doesn't have a shutter like some webcams do so I point it at the ceiling when not in use. If my computer is somehow compromised, the hacked will have a nice view of my ceiling.

Re: Would you recommend Debian to a brand new Linux user? Why/Why not?
I think it would be great if the Debian project focused more time on the onboarding of novice users. For example, using the Calamares installer in the live images is great because it's easy to use but it's a little tricky for newcomers to find those live images. It always seemed a little odd to me that we say "Debian is amazing but don't start with Debian."
This leads me to believe the following:
The Debian project doesn't want to attract novice users...
OR
The Debian project doesn't have ...
