Re: qt6ct does not have the option of selecting gtk2 theme
@bbbhitz Yes, this a working way to add an additional widget style to qt6. People interested in "legacy" styles will surely have more work to do than before to get what they want.

Re: [Software] Sound: Audacity can record, but produces no sound output
The pulse option was there for me too even during my short PipeWire time, and even working, so that is not really an indication for the presence of PulseAudio. And your two apt --dry-run reports seem to contradict each other... Nevertheless, as suggested in the posts above, uninstalling/reinstalling is always possible without side effects, so I would say go ahead and try, but after uninstalling any of them, make sure that it is really gone completely (best checked after rebooting).

Re: qt6ct does not have the option of selecting gtk2 theme
It is not that it cannot (actually widget style, not really theme); it simply does not contain it. As I said, qt6 only contains the Windows and Fusion styles; other styles will have to be provided by third parties and somehow installed in order to become selectable. The colour scheme is a separate matter, and I don't think that widget styles place any restrictions on the colours applied.RickWakefield wrote: 2024-12-22 09:23 Is this to say that qt6 cannot apply the gtk2 theme like qt5 can?

Re: [Software] Sound: Audacity can record, but produces no sound output
CwF From the thread that you linked to, I think you want to suggest that it is possible to switch back and forth between PulseAudio and PipeWire. I can back this up with my own experience, since I jut did it. However, removing PipeWire is not as straight forward as one would expect; I had my hard time making it disappear from the inxi report.
sudo apt autoremove
did the last bit, so the relevant part of the inxi report looks like this:
Audio:

Most probably yes, provided that you uninstall PipeWire first.Wm. A. Weasel wrote: 2024-12-21 19:59 Would returning to pulse be as simple as apt install pulseaudio?

Re: [Software] Sound: Audacity can record, but produces no sound output
There seem to be some issues (see this thread ) when both PulseAudio and PipeWire are installed on Bookworm. On the good side, your inxi report shows that only PipeWire acts as sound server, but the wpctl report shows that PulseAudio is also present. I would go with uninstalling one of them.
[Edit] I have just
sudo apt install pipewire-audio
on my desktop running Bookworm 12.8 with kernel 6.1.0-28-amd64, Audacity 3.2.4, getting PipeWire 0.3.65 installed as Audio Server-1, and Audacity runs ...

Re: [Software] Sound: Audacity can record, but produces no sound output
Have you tried to select another playback device? For me, some devices, such as (hw:0, 0), yield behaviour just as you describe; others, such as front, lead to Audacity producing an error message, and at least default, dmix and pulse work normally. PipeWire is not in my list, so I guess it is not installed by default.

@maloosheck See this thread. I am quite sure it is the same problem: most of the times, I see the lines that I have shown there, but once in a while I get the lines that you have shown. The last link given by @kvdberg shows that the systemd developers are aware of the problem and struggling to solve it.

Re: [Forum] Alternate themes
@arzgi Thank you for the swift reply. But in this case, I will just stick with the default theme, since the transition between default and X-Creamy is not something I can get used to.

[Forum] Alternate themes
Hi there,
I have seen this thread about alternate themes and tried X-Creamy out of curiosity. It works fine as long as I am logged in, but as soon as I log out, I am thrown back to the default theme. Is this the intended behaviour?

Do you have any physical side buttons except the power button on the edges of your tablet? If yes, it may be worth trying to press them. On my laptop, I can press any key except the power key to get past that occasional halt.

Folllowing up, what's dracut and how will I know if I'm using it?
If you don't know what's dracut, you are most probably not using it, unless you are on someone else's machine; it is not installed by default. And don't worry about building the drivers: that happens automatically during installation. You just have to be sure that you have already installed the latest Linux headers before starting to install the nVidia drivers. For your card, you can most likely directly install nvidia-driver ...

I'm not a developer but it appears that libdrumstick bug interferes with the Qt6 migration.
Qt6 as framework (the libraries) was not removed during the last few weeks; it was qtcreator, which thankfully made it back Today :D .
jebez I am quite new to Trixie (since August this year), but it was new for me to recently experience the disappearance of frequently-used applications . However, sunrat has taught me to be patient, and young events have shown that he was right. The temporary ...

Re: [Software] How to use aplaymidi?
My suspicion that an output port should be listed has turned out to be right. After more web research, I have found an answer to my question on http://www.tedfelix.com/linux/linux-midi.html. With fluidsynth running in one terminal and providing an output port, aplaymidi was finally able to produce audible sounds. Concluding, aplaymidi really needs somebody to provide an output port, and the fact that fluidsynth can also play midi files renders aplaymidi quite superfluous...

[Software] [Solved] How to use aplaymidi?
Hello there,
I am trying to use aplaymidi to play a midi file, but I am not able to get any sound, even though it looks like it is playing.
The only listed port is:
tiberius@rog:~$ aplaymidi -l

14:0 Midi Through Midi Through Port-0
The same single port is listed on all my machines, and I suppose that an output port should be listed in order to get any sound. But how to get an output port listed?

I'm in the same boat with a 18 TB storage array that holds all the family photographs.
18TB? :o I thought my wife with just over 100 GB is world champion! Did you ever try to figure how much of your life time you will need to review all that material? I can only remark that since photos have become digital, we have amassed inflationary amounts of them, and in the rare occasions that we are in the mood to "look in the past", we only look at the albums of "real" photos, from the time when you ...
