I've recently started using the feature and it is great, however I would like a different browser for each activity. I've tried a few guides online but none seem to work.

Re: [HowTo] Install a kernel from Backports
Once you use a kernel from backports, how does this affect upgrades when going to the next major version (like 13)?
It won't affect an upgrade to 13. Kernels are backported from Testing so there's zero chance a kernel in bookworm-backports will be newer than Trixie's kernel.
Hope this helps -
Thanks! During my testing, I noticed one thing: using the latest kernel in backports may not be compatible with the kernel modules you are using. When I tried 6.11 with ZFS and NVIDIA, building ...

Re: [Solved] volume boot has only 4mb disk space remaining error
Thanks wizard10000 . A few follow up questions.
1) Based on the sample values given above, it appears that 4.76 GB has been reserved on the partition for root. i.e. (1249036 * 4096) / (1024 * 1024 *1024). Is my understanding correct?
2) Is this 1% or 5% or whatever the user has decided done on a per partition basis or for root partition only? So if the disk is divided into say root (/), /home, /swap and /boot partition, then for each partition 1% or 5% or some value is reserved for root ...

Re: [Software]
ClamAV may be giving you false positives for PUA.Win.Trojan.Xored. There are multiple instances that have been reported for this, example 1 , example 2 , example 3 and others. As explained in this thread
PUA means "potential unwanted application". PUA are not virusses, those are claims by clamav that there is an application they consider "unwanted" because that file or extension have been proven to be abused in Windows
Further documentation regarding this from horses mouth can be found ...

@wizard10000 how is it possible to check how much has Linux reserved for a particular partition? Is there some command that can be used?

Re: [Software] Installed app still in downloads folder
If you have downloaded a .deb package and installed it from terminal then it will be installed in the location defined in the deb package. Typically, not always, it is the /opt directory where it is installed. To find out which directory will be used to install the package/application use the following command
dpkg -c DebianPackageFileName.deb
Please replace DebianPackageFileName.deb with the actual file name of the .deb file name. To install the deb package you can use the following command ...

In 2021 f-prot was discontinued. I do not think that it is available any more for Linux. Its successor product AntiVirus Protection Manager no longer supports Linux or BSD. I wonder what do other products that were based on f-prot or dependent on f-prot are now using.

Re: [Discussion] rkhunter development hiatus
Yes there was an attempt to do just that. But it did not work out. There has not been any update on the rkhunter mailing list or on the website.
Using rkhunter to detect the latest rootkits, say those rootkits created after 2019 is a fraught enterprise.

Google dominates the search ad-tech space, yes. But that is not the space that is only going to get impacted if the remedies of DoJ are accepted. Google's domination in Video Streaming, Mobile and AI is more consequential than its ad-tech space.

All of this, including the Google one, will die down as soon as Donald takes over from Biden.
I do not think so, historically Presidents don't touch these kinds of investigations which are politically neutral, likely because it is a consumer level of protection or regress.
Historically Presidents have been normal presidents. The incoming President is not a normal one. His and cohorts rants about regulations and unnecessary government interference are red flags.
Let us see what ...

Re: [Software] Snapdragon X Processors Debian Support
This support needs to come and fast. The entire x86_64 lineup may die. It cannot compete in terms of raw performance and battery life with the new ARM SoC chips. We can expect ARM SoC to be the standard for Desktop PC going forward.
x86_64 may well end up down the path of UltraSPARC and other processor architecture families.

I wanna trim disk space but not brick the system. I am not going to use rm -rf /.steve_v wrote: 2024-11-29 10:21 Oh it will certainly help to "trim disk space", but nowhere near as much as a nice quick rm -rf /. will.
What exactly you will break by deleting random things because they "takes up hundreds of megabits of disk space" is up to you to find out.

There is nothing to suggest that the backdoor that was found as part of this research does not impact Debian systems.
There is nothing to promote other than awareness of the issue over here.

It takes up hundreds of megabits of disk space. To trim the disk space.
