Re: Impact of the current magnetic storm on PC, laptop, ... ?
Honestly, this sun storm drama is nothing but hype as far as I am concerned. Wait for it... The Solar Maximum peaks this year. In 2002, when I was OCD about it, I kept updates on big solar events and they did not disappoint. You can see it on the wayback machine captures of my site back then: http:...

Wait till you feel the quickness of your machine run up your fingers and down your spine when you experience how lightweight and resource friendly it is to use Fluxbox Window Manager. Not to mention the thrill and satisfaction off having a custom desktop with the programs you choose and graphic desi...

Re: [Hardware] mounting of new drive
I have never edited /etc/fstab once in 25 years. I've never had to.
Code: Select all
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /media/username
sudo umount /dev/sdb1 /media/username

Re: [Solved] Is there a beginners guide or handbook?
I've been caught out a few times. Searching has provided the answers but I'd like a user manual/guide type of thing. Advice please.Thanks. Someone is writing one right no, and you show in a most timely manner there is an audience for it. Until then, this may be of some assistance: https://www.debia...

Re: [Video] mp4 files crashes vlc
VLC is not the most sable video player to begin with. I like it bet but any time I use it I never know when it will freeze controls and have to reboot the computer to get past it. Parole and MPV Video Player are both options I have available.

Re: Problem during the installation of Kali Linux
I've never dual-booted but this build of Kali GNU/Linux 2024.3 is 3 years old and ran continuously on a Lenovo 100 GB HDD. I would ditch Windows or buy another HDD and install Kali as the only OS. You'll have better luck.

Kali GNU/Linux 2024.3 on a Lenovo T61. This is a build I started with at 2021.3 and has run continuously using rolling updates with the only problem being an impossible situation. Something I had never heard of and turned out not to exist.

Re: DMCA (Copyright) Complaint to Google
You've thrown out a seed concerning behavior modification. I'm confident I could challenge much of the modern thinking on that. As far as I'm concerned we figured most of it out a few thousand years ago. I could harp on the misappropriation of 'intent' and the misdirection of 'ego'. Instead, I appe...

DMCA (Copyright) Complaint to Google
In 2021 I informed FreeBSD Admin the FreeBSD forums of today was not the same community I joined in 2012, the forums no longer represented my values and if they would be so kind as to delete two tutorials I had written and posted there, I would disappear with them and there would be no further inter...

Re: [Off-Topic] Help wanted: Writing a beginner's book to Debian
For clarity, I am not talking about, or in any way a proponent of, dumbing-down the userbase. With the exception of an infulx or people who are, and at this moment experiencing strange new rituals that will frighten away some and make Sorcerers or others. Everyone should be able to use the command l...

Re: [Off-Topic] Help wanted: Writing a beginner's book to Debian
I just wanted to point out what new users perceive as harsh can vary widely from what an experienced user would think harsh, snobbery, or leetism And don't always pass it off as being lazy. If you're dumb today there's always hope for tomorrow. Cut them some slack today and go from there. When I fir...

Re: [Off-Topic] Help wanted: Writing a beginner's book to Debian
I don't know how it's "elitist" to say that one should do their research when trying something new. I mean, ain't that always the first thing to do? And, by the way, if someone's too lazy to search for quick start / guide / alike, I'd not expect him/her as well to even consider looking fo...

Re: [Off-Topic] Help wanted: Writing a beginner's book to Debian
It's not about being elitist/1337, as I said, Linux isn't hard to learn. In your opinion. I'm guessing you know a lot of people who are of the same opinion. I have met 1, one, person in the last 19 years who actually knew what BSD was, he's dead, and I don't know anyone who uses Linux and don't rem...
