Late Breaking News from the Associated Press: Click the link and read please. U.S. regulators want a federal judge to break up Google to prevent the company from continuing to squash competition through its dominant search engine after a court found it had maintained an abusive monopoly over the pas...

Re: A Guide to Debian Community Discord

Made into a global announcement as it deserves it. Debian Discord Instances, User Forums, Reddit sub-forums, and other areas around the Internet each cater to particular users. There is some overlap, though not a lot, across this divide of where Debian is accessible. A large part of our affiliations...

Re: Cookies Decline - Accept box appears every page load

That cookie thing is super annoying! I'd love to get rid of it, but think we need to it so that we do not run afoul of any e-regulation somewhere in the world. Perhaps we just add it to the rules thread that cookies and outside font calls are used here ... the problem is no one really reads fine pri...

Re: [Discussion] Psychoanalysing proponents of two wheels

Might be getting a new computer too. Not that there's anything wrong with mine. One of the reasons I went with a Lenovo is because it is Chinese. I hear they put spy equipment on their computers, but I figure everyone does that. My figuring was that if the US government wanted that data they'd have...

Re: [Discussion] Psychoanalysing proponents of two wheels

Dr Cheeto Cornchip I believe the authorities statements on that like a 5 star review of a $50 helmet. Speaking of, I grew my hair out a bit recently and my helmets no longer fit so I'm saving up for new helmets, at their current market price point I'm thinking of no longer colour matching and just ...

Re: Daily driver as samba server

hmmm .... this is more of a security themed question since your regulation of the machine will dictate the use. In other words if the machine is internal to your home network only, and you are the sole user of the machine, then dual use is fine. If this is a networked machine that has multiple users...

Re: Why Debian does not offer from the beginning an .iso file to be installed as a server?

Doesnt the installer ask which packages you wish to install at installation time? Desktop Managers, Apache, SSH, etc ... ? I did one last week but am so used to seeing the screen that I've never paid actual attention to it.

Re: Scheduled Forum update, upgrade, maintenance planned: 1800 UTC - May 28.

reinob Ahhhh, I get it. I can take a peek at this in a bit. We may have a move coming up soon and I'd rather not mess with any server side configuration but on the new instance we can expand on it for fuller support and not just http(s). This might help with some other IP issues we've had with bots...

I've only ever seen mail from the ipv4 address.
I believe native behavior is to send via IPv6 or IPv4 depending on the recipient MTA.

Re: [Feedback] forums.debian.net SPF

Hello, I have noticed that the SPF record for forums.debian.net states: forums.debian.net. 3307 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:159.69.48.177 ~all" but e-mail can actually be delivered over IPv6 (2a01:4f8:1c17:7bb3::1), which results in SPF considering the address "neither permitted nor denied&qu...

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?

A T480 with 64 GB RAM sounds like a winner. My T440S with touchscreen has not been a good experience with Debian. It should boot up and increase my level of radiation in under 4 seconds. :) I like the idea of the touch screens, but I have found in my experience, that if the controller isn't native ...

Re: Which laptop do YOU run Debian on?

Lenovo T480S, Bookworm. This model is limited to 16GB of memory, I got it after my prior T480 proper died and transported 16GB of the 32 I had prior and swapped the 256GB HD for my 512GB SSD. I plan on getting another T480 and putting in 64GB of memory and a 1TB SSD drive that I have sitting around,...
