Need a gui front-end for Iptables
I need a package for a gui front-end for iptables. There are many to chose. Which should I install?
EDIT: I will redefine my question.
I need a package for gui front-end for iptables. I need NOT a simple front-end, but a sophisticated front-end. Recommendations please.
Thanx to all.

Re: debian 12 & ssd ware?
I think that my questions (by now) would've been addressed in this post. So I don't expected some of my questions in this post to be answered.dlu2021 wrote: 2023-07-25 21:40 Your perception of ssd lifespans is outdated. It is perfectly acceptable to use an ssd instead of a hard drive, below is a recent discussion about it:

I did find out that there's a program that came with the debian 12 distro that auto runs to help protect my drive.

debian 12 & ssd ware?
Until I get the money to custom build my computer with a proper hard-drive (one that has a disk and spins [hdd]) im stuck with ssd.
Has debian 12 done anything to help us out in that regards?
Is there packages one could recommend to help ease ware and tear on my ssd?
I'll turn some logging off.
I will turn off swap. That should help.
I've been self-conscious about sending data into the free space (deleting) putting it in my trash bin instead, filling the drive about 75% before deleting. That ...

Re: Is Artificial Intelligence (Ai) intelligent yet?
Just recently I tried ai for the first time. It was quite the experience. I 've using it for a few weeks now and I think my live improved! As for the topic, I've only used bing can't really say.
I tried to break Bing by attempting to trick it into giving me information I wasn't suppose to have. I did have some success in tricking, but not much.
I tried to break it, but had no success.
I guess I will continue to enjoy this ai..............................until it kills me.

From what I know about Ubuntu, it seems to be geared toward the more less advance /causal users/normal users. That's why I picked Debian.Head_on_a_Stick wrote: 2023-07-21 16:25 It was just a joke, that's all. But I do prefer Debian."Ubuntu" is an African word that means "I can't configure Debian"

That's good advice on the EULA. Easier said than done.Head_on_a_Stick wrote: 2023-07-21 05:39
You really should read the Terms & Conditions before agreeing to the EULA.
And anyway, it could be worse — some laptops are sold with Ubuntu preinstalled FFS...
Sounds like you don't like Ubuntu. I believe it's the most used distro. Never used it myself. What is the problem with Ubuntu? Just curious because I heard it was a decent enough distro.

My 12 year old toshiba can not handle the load of MS Windows 11 - not even close. But It does run debian 12 with room to spare. How crazy is that?!
EDIT: At installation, about 8GB of my hard drive was used. With Firefox and a few small programs, 7% of my 250 GB drive was used!
With no other software in run, this OS was using about 48% on my ram!
With debian 12, after installing Tor, and a file manager, I’m using about 4% of my total drive! And with nothing in run, I use less than 25% of ...

I don't understand your question. This post has everything to do with debian. And I have you know that I haven't broken any rules. And why can't I criticize another OS...especially Microsoft with there bloated OS's. Why is this sub here?arochester wrote: 2023-07-20 21:40 What's this got to do with Debian? Traumatized By MS Windows 11 - I need a hug :)
I recently bought a new computer, an HP with MS Windows 11 preinstalled. For those who never used MS Window 11, OMG. YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE HOW BLOATED THIS OS IS!
I ditched MS Windows back in march of 2016 for Linux and never looked back. This computer was preloaded with MS Windows 7. I thought MS7 was bloated, but this was nothing compared to MS Windows 11 OMG.
This OS had I don’t know how many software programs installed...dozens and dozens. Most of these programs I wouldn’t have used. Some ...

Installing Deb 11 Over MS 11. EXTREMELY ANXIOUS
I have just bought a new computer - a HP slim desktop.
I have downloaded an iso for Debian 11.7 and about to install over windows 11.
I have EXTREME anxiety (I'd say 9 out 10) for the fear that something will go horribly wrong and I will be without a working OS.
I ask for advice as to what precautions I should take before I attempt an install.
Note that I have by data backed up, I don't want a duel boot, and I want to install over this Microsoft bloated piece of crap OS.

M@X, Some time has pass, and I don't know if I'm to late to save you from a life of hell, but here it goes.
One post suggested that you log in as root. In your OP you said that you were new to Linux. Operating daily task as root is a bad idea, even for seasoned Linux users. I strongly recommend you operate on a standard account.

Re: Questions about Firewalls and computer monitoring
I too, have face this dilemma. When I searched for a iptable gui, i was overwhelmed. Good god, there's so many!
One post made a good point: It really all depends on what your looking for in a gui.
Another poster made a fine point: "I doubt what you ask for can be done in any other way than the CLI."
There are many, many Gui for iptables out there. And I think there may be one that will meet your needs. But if you want precise filtering than really the CLI is the way to go. But I understand ...

Re: Can't Boot Into OS. A Very Stange Thing Has Happen!
I think maybe the "/var was at 100% usage" that you cited may have been your disk problem, if the disk itself is not full. This can happen pretty fast actually, if you don't clean it after updates and upgrades.
When I update/upgrade my system I usually run this sequence (every time):
sudo apt update
then
sudo apt upgrade
then
sudo apt autoremove
then
sudo apt autoclean
I'm not sure these are all necessary -but this sequence certainly keeps that /var full error from appearing.
