Thanks for replying. I forgot about OpenWRT. Wonder if that would work on the Ubiquity access point? Ill look into thatUptorn wrote: 2025-01-17 15:05 I had once tried a Ubiquiti several years ago as a residential solution. I forget exactly why I stopped using it, but these days I find devices running OpenWRT to be much more predictable and reliable.

[Discussion] Ubiquity Access Points
Im asking for opinions on Ubiquity Access Points here because there are a lot of very smart people here. :)
I have a UAP that no longer will provide internet access but devices connect fine to it. When I went into the control program and checked the configuration I see a bunch of "Requires a Ubiquity Security Gateway" and also the same type of notice for needing a Ubiquity switch. I never ran into this before with Ubiquity. Is this there way of just selling more equipment? I do not remember ...

Re: Libra Chat Stifles Users Freedom
I have heard this type of problem ever since I got into computers really. Some people think because they are anonymous they can pretty much say whatever. I have always held the belief that if I am in a forum I am a guest and I should act accordingly. People are a bit more thin skinned I think now-a-days. So, Any comment can be taken wrong especially when you cannot express emotions in a forum that well.

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G5 Not Detecting Hardware RAID
What model controller are the drives hooked up too? I guess that would be the first question on this. Then see if it loads a driver for them. If it doesnt then perhaps the driver is available. I have a few dell T610's with the H700 controller card that I had to load a driver for when installing. Perhaps your running into the same issue?

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G5 Not Detecting Hardware RAID
Im thinking the driver for the raid controller was discontinued from the kernel or modules. I know that is the case with some of the megaraid controllers. Is it possible you can list out your hardware profile to see which raid controller it is?
Incidently, I have one of these ML350's also sitting in my basement unused but works.

Re: [Software] Rsync and NFS
I'm not sure how anyone is going to be able to assist here without seeing the rsync commands you're using.
rsync -av /etc /mnt/backups-md1
I think my server hates me. Now its working. I just ran another test backup of the /etc directory and the permissions are now correct on all the files. The only difference is the owner/group which I can see are because of the user I ran it as (user is coffee). No problem to chown and chgrp the files in case I have to restore them back.
I normally ...

[Software] [SOLVED] [Software] Rsync and NFS
Hello Everyone,
I have built up a backup server on my local lan with a couple of 8tb drives mirrored together. My plan is to export shares from it in order to backup system files/folders. For this I am using rsync. Normally I do not have a problem on local backups on the same computer/server. However, I am failing to understand how to keep file permissions and ownership intact when rsyncing to the NFS share.

Good to read that you got a game plan figured out.
I bought a PCIe adapter for 2 NVme's a while back only to discover that it didnt have boot capabilities. I had to reorder another adapter instead.

Have you tried taking your hub down in the basement to the computer and plugging it in with a regular passive usb cable to see if it works? Also have you tired plugging a usb device directly into the usb port of the computer in the basement?

https://github.com/Nyr/openvpn-install
I have done this in the past and used Nyr's script for setting up a VPN. It works very good. I might recommend 'wireguard' as it does seem faster than openvpn type setups.

Re: Traumatized By MS Windows 11 - I need a hug :)
That's why they have more informed people making decisions in places like NASA. NASA's Perseverance rover on Mars, for example, is powered by a 233Mhz PowerPC 750 CPU. The same single core chip that powered Apple's iMac G3 in 1998. Of course NASA's technicians weren't looking to run physics simulations on Mars, their highest priority was reliability. And, apparently, the PowerPC 750 has a proven track record.
I would argue that when a command is sent to the Rover it takes up to 20 minutes. So ...

Re: Firewalld: how to apply zones on interfaces ?
I use 'firewall-config' on my server. Its a GUI frontend for the firewall.
I have two nic cards. One is for the internet connection and is in zone 'external'. The other nic is for the local lan and is in zone 'internal'. Then on the zones I can assign ipmasq on the external zone and open up ports 80 and 443. On the internal zone I also open up just what I need. There is a list to select or I can do it by port.
If your doing yours via command line then there are examples on the web for doing ...

Re: Traumatized By MS Windows 11 - I need a hug :)
I had a client ask me about what a good virus software for his windows 10 would be.
I responded: "Worrying about your antivirus software is like worrying about a leaky faucet on the Titanic".
M$ sure does make a lot of money selling off everyone's information and then charging them a monthly extortion fee for a word processor.
Most people that got hooked into that Office365 or just a stand alone version have no idea that in order to "Re-install" it you have to have a MS account. Those that ...

Re: [Software] System stop responding when I plug in any USB
Most of the time what helps when trouble shooting is to watch the kern.log in real time while plugging in the usb stick.
sudo tail -f /var/log/kern.log
My theory on usb sticks is - The first run of usb sticks are really fast and word gets around (with reviews on shopping sites) about how good they are. Then the next run of them they change to a cheap controller and performance issues come up. But the company saves money with the less costly poorer controller chip. Thats my theory. I have two ...

Re: Another strange behavior with ASUS mainboards.
I have the same issue (feature?) with my Asus Prime X370 pro board. In fact, I just purchased an Asus 'Tuff-gaming'-plus B550 Board and it does the same thing. It acts like its booting up twice. Does it whether its plugged in or not. Just shut it down and start it and the Asus bios splash screen appears then goes to what appears the operating system but then clears the screen and boots up again.
I have never really been bothered by it as my X370 is on pretty much 24/7. The 'Tuff-gaming' is ...

In any case, do this:
Note the original permissions on it are 755 in case something breaks.

cd /usr/lib/gimp/2.0
Code: Select all
sudo chmod 766 plug-ins
