Re: [Software] KDE backup - how does it work?
The app was already installed. The only thing to set-up (that I saw) was which files, how often/when and location to save files. Seems simple but it just didn't work. I was doing a re-install and now that I have a fresh system, I'll try it again. I use the KDE backup and it works well. It's basicall...

Re: [Software] KDE backup - how does it work?
I went with DejaDup yesterday. That apps been around a long time. In my opinion, using rsync or one of its derivates is probably the best for backing up. Be sure to keep your hands off tools like Borg or DejaDup. With these, you always need the complete chain of unbroken backups from the initial bac...

[Software] KDE backup - how does it work?
On Deb 12 KDE there is a back-up app. I set it up but I'll be darn if I can get it to run. I could install Timesync that I used forever on Mint but it would be nice to use the one I see now.

Re: [Software] How do I backup samsung phone
Well I make a call from my phone every few days. I'm 71 years old, almost 72, retired and never was a big phone user. I grew up in the days that if you were out and wanted to make a call, you found a phone booth and I survived quite well. ;) So why the heck would I spend $1,000 on a phone. My IT emp...

Re: [Software] How do I backup samsung phone
Backs up everything from Texts to Contacts and everything else. It is a two way sync so whenever I buy new phones, all I have to do is sync the new phone. Copying by tethered USB is not a sync. I can do backups of text and phone calls (SMS stuff) to Google. As for over priced, I pay under $200 for m...

Ok, thanks for moving the post. I was looking for a home to place my post.

There are a couple of reasonably good readmes pinned to the top of this forum. I'd suggest starting there.
Good luck -

[Discussion] Testing - what to look for?
I'm thinking of putting my Deb 12 into motion to move to Testing upgrade. It isn't un-stable, it isn't stable but I think it is usable. This isn't a server computer, it doesn't have to carry the day for anything except to browse with a bit of other things like Libra Writer. I'm getting that distro-h...

Re: How can I install cpupower-gui_1.0.0-1_all.deb
Hm? Thought I posted this. Thanks for all your help but I finally got it to install. Installed the DEB file but then no GUI. It wanted Handy installed, so I installed Handy. Then it started and I had the GUI. I rebooted and saw an error that said it can't start the program during boot. Maybe GRUB ne...

Re: How can I install cpupower-gui_1.0.0-1_all.deb
I got it off of https://github.com/vagnum08/cpupower-gui/releases/ It was downloaded to the download folder. Just saw this and I'll try to remember. "never use -y with aptitude, apt-get or apt. It's dangerous, you're allowing them to do whatever they want without asking you." Thanks sudo a...

Re: How can I install cpupower-gui_1.0.0-1_all.deb
Ok, I have Discover back. I back tracked and saw my problem was with libglib2.0-dev so I installed it. aptitude install libglib2.0-dev During the process I was taken to many choices and I chose downgrade. Well the git link has a DEB file and I am using Discovery to install it. I'm not good at using terminal commands for Git installs. So unless there is a DEB file for Discover, I'm dead in the water. How can I install cpupower-gui_1.0.0-1_all.deb
This works on LMDE6 but I can't get it to work on Debian 12. I'd like to install cpupower-gui_1.0.0-1_all.deb but when I do it shows a dependency issue. It doesn't say which dependency is missing? I'm kind of surprised that KDE doesn't have a GUI to set a CPU governor. https://github.com/vagnum08/cp...

Re: [Hardware] Fan speed is high
Well I can report that over the past few days I've tried a bunch of thing and I should have kept a log. So far I am not having frantic fans and the temps are in a reasonable zone. What fixed it? I do not know and maybe it will change during the next reboot? Silence is golden.

Re: [Hardware] Fan speed is high
I still have a Pavillion, back light issues years ago, it will start but it is probably 20> years old. It was terrible to take a part and yes there was a fan issue. I had a replacement but never installed it because of the crazy hard removal. Boat anchor but it did withstand some heavy falls. I used...
