Re: [Off-Topic] [Well, not anymore - check 4th post] Avoid newer MSI motherboards - first steps into "Windows-only"
Glad that you were able to solve this. By the way, there are at least two MSI boards that work with a Coreboot variant: https://docs.dasharo.com/unified/msi/overview/

Strange. I assume you're using a standard .conf file such as those on https://www.andrews-corner.org/abcde/, right?

[Testing - Bookworm] Libreoffice and Firefox taking too long to start (fix)
About one month ago, Libreoffice began taking too long to start. I assumed it was a LO issue, but then I noticed Firefox was also taking forever to start. Based on this topic https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=153321 , I purged xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-gtk from my system and ...

Re: NetworkManager Applet crashed when trying connect wifi
In reply to the above poster, I wasn't able to solve the issue. I connected my laptop to my phone to get online while on holiday, but now that I'm back I've found no issues with my home wifi network, probably because I don't need to input the password.

Re: NetworkManager Applet crashed when trying connect wifi
I encountered the same issue when trying to connect to a new wifi network, after entering the password. However, I've been able to connect to stored networks without issue.

Re: Is LightDM essential for Debian sid ?
I got rid of lightdm and I simply log in using startxfce4. I installed suckless-tools to have screen lock functionality with slock.
Maybe you could try --dry-run to see what apt will do if you purge ligthdm: sudo apt purge lightdm --dry-run

Re: Laptop only displays through external VGA monitor
I remember my old Vostro 1400 laptop failed to display an image after installing Debian 9 I think. According to my notes, I
- added "quiet video=SVIDEO-1:d" to etc/default/grub
- ran "sudo update-grub"
Probably won't work for you, but maybe you could try checking your grub options.

Re: Tip: Games for the CLI
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead has tons of depth and feels like it suck become seriously addictive. But it's quite hard and I don't think I've ever survived more than a couple of hours.
And don't forget Dwarf Fortress, obviously.

For 13 years, since I got my first laptop in 2008. I've used many distros since settling with Debian for good (I hope): PcLinuxOS -> Mandriva -> Crunchbang -> Mint -> Debian

Thanks for recommending lossless-cut. I'd been using flowblade for a while, but it's given me some trouble recently and lossless-cut is perfect for the simple edits I need to do.

I have trouble when I booth my laptop with with some monitors/TVs connected. They are simply not detected. However, if I connect them after the laptop boots (for example, after reaching the login screen), there are no issues. Maybe that could help?

Re: Video Editing
I like Flowblade, though I've only used it to make very simple edits. The version on Debian Stable is quite old, but you can run it from a user folder.
