Re: os-prober takes forever if Arch is installed on other partition
So far, my understanding of how os-prober works is that the delay occurs because of how grub-mount handles file system detection and mounting when the partition isn't already mounted. It needs to probe file system types, attempt various drivers, perform thorough checks and verification which eventua...

Re: os-prober takes forever if Arch is installed on other partition
Mounting the partition with 'grub-mount /dev/sda6 /var/lib/os-prober/mount' should be a rather quick operation not needed more than a few seconds. But htop shows it running for 3+ minutes, which makes me wonder if it has difficulty mounting the partition. Arch is installed in a standard ext4 partiti...

Re: os-prober takes forever if Arch is installed on other partition
This appears to be the same issue. Can you explain why it needs a new topic? Splitting it may reduce the chance of an answer. That was slightly old issue, and there wasn't any 'resolution' to it, even if marked 'solved'. The new attempt, imo, had some new info Are you sure Arch is on a ext4 partiti...

Re: os-prober takes forever if Arch is installed on other partition
Is Arch the only installed OS besides Windows and Debian? Which Debian release and os-prober version are installed? Yes, Win 11 and Arch are only OSes. Debian is bookworm, updated. os-prober is 1.81 This issue manifests on more than one machine. I ran os-prober in Arch, and it detects immediately e...

os-prober takes forever if Arch is installed on other partition
I have a situation where os-prober when mounting an ext4 partition takes up CPU 100% and does not come out. 1) Partitions [ EFI ] [ WIn Reserved ] [Win ] [ empty ] [swap ] [arch] [ ntfs ] 2) Arch is already installed in 'sda6' 3) Arch partition is NOT mounted <- important 4) os-prober is enabled 5) ...

Re: GRUB os-prober seems to hang during install
Aki , in all install attempts, I had waited roughly 300 seconds for os-prober to complete. But upon one more attempt in which I gave it roughly 10 minutes, the os-prober did complete. Its component '90linux-distro' took that long. I understand that fedora too had slow os-prober - which seems to hav...

parted -l output at http://0x0.st/X6r1.txt

Is there a way to prevent grub installation, or at least os-prober?

Re: GRUB os-prober seems to hang during install
@mrmazda The installer seems to choose existing ESP.
@Aki Please see attached image from 4th screen
I am not sure what mistake I am making. I've used manual type of disk partitioning, having selected root and swap partitions correctly.

Re: GRUB os-prober seems to hang during install
- How much time did you allow the hang to continue before giving up waiting on it? - Do you have any other operating systems? - I don't know whether the Bookworm installer is configured to deal with BTRFS filesystems used by default It hangs forever. At least 15 min. I had to deal with this step du...

[Solved] GRUB os-prober seems to hang during install
I am trying to install from downloaded 'debian-12.7.0-amd64-DVD-1' iso.
On all the three install attempts, installer is stuck at finding other operating systems, which is 'os-prober, I presume'.
There is no way to escape out of it. Can someone help?
TIA

Re: [Networking] [Solved] Can't configure wifi on a fresh Deb 12 install
I realized that the default tool in Debian is NetworkManager - which doesn't use interfaces or systemd-networking.

Re: [Networking] Can't configure wifi on a fresh Deb 12 install
Hello Aki.
I reinstalled Deb 12 using full cd. And the issue is gone.
When I check interfaces / wpa_supplicant.conf, I don't see any mention of wlp4s0.
For now let me consider this issue resolved. Thanks.

Yes, I installed firmware-atheros. You can check with the following command: You can check if there is some missing firmware; you can search system logs with the following command (root password is required): Is your computer dual booted (e.g.: Windows is installed on the same sy...

[Solved] Unable to install Netbeans 8.* on Debian (Stretch)
Hello, I have trouble installing Netbeans (especially C++ module) in Debian Stretch. When I launch the installer of Netbeans 8.1 (downloaded from netbeans.org), the dialog box which provides for customization starts but stays unresponsive. No button is clickable (customize, Next, Cancel). The 'x' cl...

Re: Debugging Konsole
Thanks Tom. I can attach the debugger now, but need to figure out how to configure path to source files etc.
In the meantime, is it possible to load the konsole project in Code::Blocks, as opposed to attaching the debugger?
Thanks in advance,
Ravi

Debugging Konsole
Can someone please enlighten how an application such as konsole is developed? I've got source, built it and generated deb file, but just don't know what environment/IDE to use it to debug. I want to debug it since the pre-installed terminal crashes each time I close it. I am fairly conversant with C...
