Re: Debian 12 on Macbook Pro 2015

Please take a look in the logs:
dmesg
journalctl -r

I also have a MBP mid 2014, but with Intel GPU and it runs smoothly.

Re: Bluetooth connection to the soundbar is lost randomly

Meanwhile, I did a series of experiments: - I replaced the soundbar with a BT speaker -> same behavior - I used a different BT dongle with soundbar and BT speaker -> same behavior I suspect that is a software error, because BT software was also updated recently. Later edit: bluez software was update...

Re: Bluetooth connection to the soundbar is lost randomly

The CPU load is maximum 40% when this happens. It might be that the CPU load jumps to 100% or near to that and the connection still doesn't get lost.

Re: Bluetooth connection to the soundbar is lost randomly

The BT USB dongle is:
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 0a5c:21e8 Broadcom Corp. BCM20702A0 Bluetooth 4.0
The firmware is loaded:
bluetooth hci0: firmware: direct-loading firmware brcm/BCM20702A1-0a5c-21e8.hcd
If the firmware was missing, then I would expect that this will not work at all.

Bluetooth connection to the soundbar is lost randomly

I have a Dell Studio laptop (I know, it is old) and I use a Plugable BT 4 dongle to connect to a soundbar. Randomly, the sound is lost when: - I change the focus from the sound source software (Firefox, smplayer, etc.), but not immediately. If the software that generates the sound is in focus, then ...

Re: laptop does not shutdown

@peer: what kernel are you using? There was an issue with one of the late kernels, please take a look here: viewtopic.php?t=157738&sid=83a6c3bfbbc5 ... 48c9652247

Just boot with an older kernel and update your installation.

The issue is solved with kernel 6.1.0-16 / 6.1.67-1, so I will mark this as solved.

After a shutdown and restart, kernel 6.5 is gone from the list of the available packages.
I do not know how this was solved and what was the problem before, but it is ok now.

Thanks everybody for your assistance!

Re: Issues with kernel 6.1.0-15-amd64/stable 6.1.66-1

Now: - I completely removed the line for backports repository in my sources.list file - I did a "apt autoclean" - I did: rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin (there were no other files inside) - I did: apt update But I still get this: 6 packages can be upgraded. Run 'apt list ...

Re: Issues with kernel 6.1.0-15-amd64/stable 6.1.66-1

I installed kernel 6.1.0-16. The problem is that now kernel 6.5 (and associated gcc compiler) appears in the list of available updates and I can't get rid of them, although: - I commented the line for proposed updates - I removed /var/cache/apt/ and /var/lib/apt/lists (After the cleanup "apt up...

@Aki: this new kernel 6.1.0-16 does solves the issue. Later edit: I reverted that line (so that I should not see the proposed updates anymore), but how can I get rid of kernel-6.5 when I do a "apt update"? kernel 6.5 is now in the experimental phase, I am interested only in packages in sta...

Re: Issues with kernel 6.1.0-15-amd64/stable 6.1.66-1

According to your log, these are two traces that could be interesting to investigate. The first is the following (the missing rtl8192cufw_TMSC.bin is included in the package firmware-realtek; see https://packages.debian.org Yes, but how does the system works properly when a different kernel is boot...

Re: Issues with kernel 6.1.0-15-amd64/stable 6.1.66-1

You can enter Maintenance mode by choosing advanced options in grub (typically it is the second menu entry). Then you should see a list of available kernels. Every kernel version is displayed twice: one for normal mode, one for maintenance. Choose maintenance.

Re: Issues with kernel 6.1.0-15-amd64/stable 6.1.66-1

@alexis-burrows: can you try to start in maintenance mode (from the grub menu) and try again?

This will start in terminal (no GUI) after you will provide the root password (therefore you do not need sudo).

[Solved] Issues with kernel 6.1.0-15-amd64/stable 6.1.66-1

I updated to the latest Debian 12.4 and I have the issues described here : - no wifi connection - extremely slow reboot - system is not responsive - etc If I use an older image, then it is fine. For the moment, I "solve" it, by removing the 6.1.0-15 and using an older kernel. That one work...

Re: XF86MonBrightnessUp and XF86MonBrightnessDown are not working

I checked and indeed the proprietary driver is installed. I also checked another laptop and that one also doesn't have acpid installed, yet modifying the display luminosity functions. Weird, indeed... I decided not to install acpid since I couldn't find a link between luminosity and those X events. ...

As far as as I know the proprietary driver is installed, not the free one. I will also check this.

Ok, I would give it a try.
