Re: [Software] Debian won't shutdown

Welcome to the forum :D

As no one answered until now, I'll give it a try.

#1. Think, the printout of a

Code: Select all

 inxi -Fz
would give users here an overview on your system.

#2. I would remove everything from that machine, which is unnecessary for running Linux.

Disconnect additional drives, boards, WIFI, LAN, BT etc. which are not essential.

Make it simple, real simple.

Anything changed?

#3. Reset the BIOS settings to default.

Anything changed?

Take it like a game, 'back to START!'

Re: What glue to use for detatched laptop screen lid

It seems, you don't have much experience on doing a job like this.

So chances are, trying to repair this way (glue) might botch the situation.

Did you try to find replacement parts? ebay, amazon ...?

Very good! and when you power up the Acer laptop, it starts with the grub screen and this lets you decide, if you want to start Linux or WIN!?

Re: What glue to use for detatched laptop screen lid

What I wouldn't recommend is epoxy glue. That stuff runs and is useless for forming structures. It seems quite firm when you mix it, and can be applied in a rough shape, but then before it sets it turns into a puddle. And it gets everywhere, is a nightmare to clean from tools, and stinks up your hands for the rest of the day.

From my workbench (R/C model aircraft)

then use thixotropic agent in combination with cotton flocks as additions to epoxy.

But for people not ...

You are not, by the way, started Xfce in Wayland mode?

But therefore it is still called 'testing'.

Re: Touchpad and Touchscreen not working

I've used Ventoy to check different Distros out, Manjaro supports everything I need out-of-the-box.

I guess that solves my problem. Thank you!

Good for you, but as I am bound to the *.deb world, would hate to shift the 'Linux world'.

By the way, some days ago there was a thread in the German Debian forum on that topic.

https://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=191338

Think, it is possible also with Debian too, but it'll take some efforts

Re: Debian 12.9 in VBox. What is going on here?

So, you are not running a Debian 12.9 (as stated in the topic), but you are running a Debian 13 (Testing, nicknamed Trixie) .

Aki, I think I made this clear in the 1st post in this thread here.

I am preparing a bit for the oncoming chance from bookworm to trixie and I am not one of those users, who change on the release day.

And I know that the Xfce and Wayland thing is not 100% and that there are still some glitches.

I know, that there can be problems doing a release upgrade. No one ...

Re: What glue to use for detatched laptop screen lid

First of all, an old saying 'A picture says more than 100 words ...'

Those "Super Glues" are available in different viscosities.

But without having an impression of the situation I would tend to use a 2 component epoxy glue. Long curing.

And if the surrounding plastic is kind of brittle (old notebook), that probably will brake up again before you can count to 3.

Re: Debian 12.9 in VBox. What is going on here?

It is strange ....

So just have seen this thread viewtopic.php?p=817250#p817250 and tried to follow lindis advice and generate a fresh installation, install 12.9 and upgrade.

Installed 12.9 (net-installer). In terminal installed the mc. Added 'user' in /etc/groups for sudo. Then in synaptic changed the sources.list from bookworm to trixie. Upgrade with synaptic. That was on the 13th. Added the vbox guest additions and gcc + make. Oxygen theme and conky. That's it!

That 'Wayland' implementation into Xfce at that stage into stable is not a problem for me here. I only ask myself, 'What's the heck?'

Re: Debian 12.9 in VBox. What is going on here?

I'm afraid synaptic doesn't work under Wayland.

But I was not under Wayland

user@debian:~$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

and this is stable!

Don't think this is OK for instance for a newbie, who just wants to have a look at Debian on his Windows machine in a VBox, got the recommendation to try Xfce and then is confronted with that Wayland <> X11 'game'.

PS. The host here is on 12.9. Disabled the auto-login in lightdm, but don't see at start-up the choice between X11 and Wayland. What ...

Re: Touchpad and Touchscreen not working

In cases like that I use to try it with different distros (Ventoy stick with Mint, MX ....) and if you are lucky, it works out of the box.

Then there is the chance (inxi) to look for hardware and driver.

Welcome to the forum ;-)
