Re: [Software] Luks suddenly not requiring passphrase
Hello, Is it used the same pass-phrase for all encrypted partitions ? Yes. it's a 29 character passphrase, I only want to remember one. :) Can you report a full copy of the system log ? Are there particular strings you're interested in? I'm not crazy about posting the fully log unless I absolutely ...

Re: [Software] Luks suddenly not requiring passphrase
Did you happen to remember the path and filename? I couldn't find it and never got back here. I just installed I just installed bookworm on one of my laptops and was VERY careful to set encryption on all 3 drives (root, swap, home) to a passphrase (I used the same passphrase for all three in case th...

Re: Lenovo = a piece of crap?
I did have to buy a new battery this spring, though it was pretty much dead last year, always had to have the laptop plugged in if I was using if for more than 20 min or so. Took a chance on an aftermarket GHU brand, X001CAV4XF. Tried to use the one from my T420, but it came up saying the battery wa...

Re: Lenovo = a piece of crap?
I bought a used ThinkPad T430 2342-6QU last September and haven't had any issues with Wheezy. It installed fine and everything worked. I will agree about the Ctrl key, I'm always messing up copy and paste. The only issue I've had is watching DVD's on it (still haven't gotten it flawless like my des...

[Software] Luks suddenly not requiring passphrase
I've been using luks with a passphrase for years, but sometime in the past months, since installing bullseye, it started using a keyfile for my home partition. I get prompted for the passphrases for /, and swap, but not home. First, I have no idea how this happened, or how it's even possible. But ma...

Re: Bizarre problem booting from /boot USB [Solved]
Well, I spoke too soon, sort of.
I can start booting the OS, get past the passphrases for the drives but it hangs at
"Starting Forward Password Requests to Wall..."
Before the passphrase for /home
Need to research that. I'll start a new thread if I don't get anywhere.

Re: Bizarre problem booting from USB
The MBR contains an ISOLinux boot sector. I am surprised that bootinfoscript did not identify it, maybe the version is too old (2012). Buster and Bullseye have a newer version. I too suspect it remains enough of the RHEL installer on the USB drive to boot ISOLinux. Anyway GRUB is not installed on t...

Re: Bizarre problem booting from USB
According to the output of the command: hd -n 512 /dev/sdc, if /dev/sdc is the usb, then it has one partition which is bootable: 1b0 ... 80 ... with isolinux booting. Since RHEL is being booted, evidently there is some RHEL code still on the usb. Where it is, is unclear. One way of testing whether ...

Re: Bizarre problem booting from USB
I thought bootinfoscript would dump the contentns of unknown boot sectors. You can do it yourself : hd -n 512 /dev/sdc hd -n 512 /dev/sdc1 Here you go SDC 00000000 33 ed 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 |3...............| 00000010 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 |.............

Re: Bizarre problem booting from USB
Maybe the USB installer was not created properly. Debian is more particular about the method used to write it because of being an iso hybrid image. From a Linux system, first detect the device to install to: lsblk Then write to the identified device: cp debian-image-whatever.iso /dev/sdX ; sync Rep...

Re: Bizarre problem booting from USB
Yes, but it may destroy all evidence and any chance to understand what happened. Also make sure the partition UUID matches /etc/fstab. I didn't want to do that so while waiting for your feedback I tried it with a different thumb drive, but messed something up so will need to try again. I definitely...

When it comes up it's loading the REHL installer. You could check the mbr on the usb if it's there. odel: SanDisk Ultra Fit (scsi) Disk /dev/sdc: 15.6GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Disk Flags: Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 1049kB 15.6GB 15.6GB p...

Re: Bizarre problem booting from USB
Install boot-info-script, run bootinfoscript with the USB drive connected and examine the report. Well, this is bothersome. => No known boot loader is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdc. Or is that normal? But there's nothing that I can see to indicate anything to do with REHL is still on the thumb d...

Bizarre problem booting from /boot USB [Solved]
Background: In July I made USB (Sandisk Ultra Fit) install media for REHL and installed the OS on a drive I had lying around. Yesterday I removed that hard drive, installed a brand new drive and installed Bullseye to encrypted disks using the same USB for the boot media. During the install I deleted...

Is anyone using Stoken with Debian?
I did a search for stoken and came up with zero references.
Anyway, if you are, are you aware of a site that lets you test an RSA SecureID compliant token generator?
Regards,
Tom

Yup, no change in error messages and dmesg still reports:
[ 6895.593227] vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol cpu_tlbstate
[ 6895.593230] vboxdrv: Unknown symbol cpu_tlbstate (err -22)

Re: Error when trying to launch guest OS in Virtualbox 6
You can have linux-image packages installed without their matching headers, which means you still can't build VBox modules. EZ way to set up module build environment: Install module-assistant . Run with sudo or as root in the terminal: m-a prepare Done. Done, but still getting the same error when t...
