How to safely compile kernel myself install and use it.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I have brought a new system with AMD Ryzen zen3 5500GT and Asus prime b450 motherboard. I installed Linux Operating System five months back updating, and using it without any problem. I thought to compile kernel source code optimized for my hardware and succeeded but I have some doubts.

I want to compile kernel source code to remove unnecessary blotware in the kernel and to improve performance.

I have read a number of tutorials and tried or experimented to compile ...

Re: expecting zen kernel which is optimised for ryzen CPU and APUs from Debian.

Yes I have posted the same thread in two forums because I am using both of them daily one after other.

I love Linux and Unix Operating Systems, X Windows System and its components.

I have lot of disk space and so I have installed various Linux Operating Systems and exploring them.

Many people don't like installing various operating systems and so I have not mentioned at the beginning.

Re: expecting zen kernel which is optimised for ryzen CPU and APUs from Debian.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Even other people suggested that there's no performance gain in using zen kernel compared to generic kernel.

expecting zen kernel which is optimised for ryzen CPU and APUs from Debian.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I have brought a new system with AMD Ryzen zen3 5500GT APU and Asus prime b450 motherboard. I have installed Debian Linux and it is working fine but I want zen kernel which is optimised for my APU.

Actually there are two or more linux kernels available at any time they are for example kernel 6.12.1, zen kernel 6.12.1, kernel liquirorix etc.,.

At present I am using ryzen APU and I want zen kernel which is optimised for my hardware.

Regularly mainline kernels are ...

looking for latest documentation of X Windows System and window managers etc.,.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I have brought a new Desktop PC with AMD Ryzen zen3 5500GT APU and Asus prime B450 MK2 motherboard. I installed Linux Operating System with X Windows System and popular desktop environments and it is working fine.

Everything is working fine but I love to explore how Linux Operating System works including all its components like shell, utilities, SystemD, X Windows System etc.,.

So I searched for documentation for the above and I found nice books which teaches ...

Re: there is no full support for AMD APUs and GPUs in Debian Trixie or testing.

If I do not use opencl like rocm or clover along with ffmpeg is there any degradation in the quality of output video file.

I installed amdgpu-install package which is from AMD git repository and its meant for Ubuntu.

From the above package or script I have installed rocm and AMF etc.,.

Have I committed any mistake.

Re: there is no full support for AMD APUs and GPUs in Debian Trixie or testing.

Ok why there's no package called rocm which is opencl from AMD. Why there's no package called AMF headers.

I tested other Linux distributions like Fedora and Arch Linux and they provide packages like rocm, AMF headers etc.,

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I brought a new desktop pc with AMD ryzen 5500GT and Asus prime b450 motherboard. I installed Debian testing or Trixie successfully and everything is working fine except hardware acceleration is not present.

Actually I use my Linux system mainly for converting h264 .mp4 video files to av1 .mp4 video files using ffmpeg and libaom.

Gpu which is integrated into my ryzen zen3 APU plays an important role in converting or transcoding through amdgpu driver and AMF ...

Re: AMD Ryzen 5500GT APU video processing libraries and Linux ffmpeg video encoding.

Are there any equivalents to mfx vpl from AMD.

Other Linux distributions have packages related to AMF but debian doesn't have. I searched Fedora packages for the word AMF and found.

What is the meaning of uvd, vce from AMD and is there any way to use them in ffmpeg.

AMD Ryzen 5500GT APU video processing libraries and Linux ffmpeg video encoding.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I brought a new desktop pc with ryzen 5500GT APU and Asus prime b450 m k2 motherboard. I have installed debian Trixie testing Linux distribution and everything is working fine except I have some doubts related to video encoding using ffmpeg and libaom av1.

I have some mp4 h264 video files and I thought to convert them to av1 codec using libaom. So I compiled ffmpeg source code with options cpu=znver3 and --enable-libaom and --enable-x265.

I succeeded in building ...

Re: [Software] writing data to NTFS partition in Unix and Linux to share with others can be destructive and risky.

One of the experienced person suggested as follows.

I ran into similar problems when I tried to use rsync to backup my Linux system to an NTFS drive. It doesn't work.

The underlying problem you are facing is the fundamental incompatibility between NTFS (and Windows file systems in general) and Linux.
The NTFS file system has restrictions on what is a valid file name. Characters like ':' (colon) are not acceptable, for example.
Linux allows any character, except / and null, to be used in file ...

Re: [Software] writing data to NTFS partition in Unix and Linux to share with others can be destructive and risky.

Others suggested to use exfat partition while sharing data between various operating systems and so I have created exfat partition and tried to share data between them using exfat.

At present everything thing is working fine and no user credentials are copied along with files or folders.

I can't understand what is the need of copying user credentials along with files or folders when NTFS partition is used as destination.

Again I am not going to use NTFS partition along with Linux because it ...

Yes I know BSD is not Linux but I have tried to share files between Linux and freebsd through NTFS and failed.

So I used the word freebsd in some places.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I brought a new desktop pc with ryzen 5500GT cpu and Asus prime b450 motherboard. I installed Linux freebsd along with windows 11 and everything is working fine except I can't copy files properly to NTFS partition and share those files with others or other computers.

Re: Blank screen after installing Debian 11.4 on i3 10th gen PC

No I have not tried.

Here the problem is not with secure boot but it's with Intel uhd graphics 630 as its not configured properly.

In other distros like Fedora and open suse tumbleweed we can get daily updates.

Is it possible to get latest updates in Debian for example I want latest kernel and latest gcc and latest drivers etc.,

Blank screen after installing Debian 11.4 on i3 10th gen PC

Hi I am Rupesh and I have a pc with Intel i3 10th gen processor 10100 and asus prime h 510 me motherboard. I have tried to install Debian Linux 11.4 bullseye and succeeded but can't boot after selecting kernel 5.10 from grub.
